I'm sure we all remember exactly where we were when glazed donut nails took over the beauty universe. While it feels like yesterday, it was actually a year and a half ago that Hailey Bieber sent the world into a frenzy trying to recreate her viral chrome nails. Nowadays, she switches up her mani more often—including Fruity pebble nails, hot chocolate nails, and mismatched manis. But, based on her most recent manicure, she may be feeling a bit nostalgic.
On December 14, Bieber's skincare empire, Rhode, posted an Instagram carousel detailing the events of their 2023 holiday party. Espresso martinis, bubbly, Peptide Lip Tints, photo booths, and festive fun were involved. As was a manicure station, where the creative director and founder adorned her recently revived glazed donut mani with a gem-encrusted "R" charm for the occasion.
The nails, which matched her frosted chrome eye makeup, were the epitome of what the glazed donut manicure trend was all about. Medium length and almond-shaped, each of her nails had a pink-tinged milky base. Then, on top, they were dusted with the classic glazed donut chrome powder. However, the look didn't stop there. As mentioned, on her left ring finger, Bieber had a 3D gold "R"-shaped charm filled with small sparking stones. If that wasn't enough, on both of her ring fingers, she also added a small diamond stud.
She paired the nails with a just as blingy ensemble. Her eyes were adorned with a thin layer of white chrome from the waterline to the brow, which was also the same shade as the highlight on her cheeks. She wore cherry red latex lips that matched her curly fur coat and formitting red chrome dress.
Though you have probably seen variations of these nails more times than you can count, in case you need a refresh, here's how you can get the look without a trip to the nail salon.
First, remove any lingering polish that may be on your nails with nail polish remover. Then, cut and file your nails to the desired length before applying oil to your cuticles to soften and push them back. Then, wipe your nails clean and buff the surface for an even canvas before going in with your favorite base coat.
After that, it's time to glaze. The first step is a coat or two of OPI's Funny Bunny ($12) or a similar polish. Then, seal it in with a top coat and let it dry completely before applying the chrome effect. Most chrome powders are professional only, so you can purchase them from a local nail salon. However, if that sounds like too much work, you can just use a fine-milled shimmery chrome eyeshadow and dust it onto each nail. Then, seal it with another layer of top coat, and you're good to go.
However, to exactly match Bieber's recent mani, you'll need some gemstones. Get nail glue and small beads, rhinestones, or nail piercings and secure the letter of your choice on your ring finger, then add some small diamond accents elsewhere—and, viola, you will practically have attended the Rhode holiday party alongside Bieber herself.
